Howard Carson, KickStartNews - Initially I thought that FinePrint was just a paper saver. However, as I explored its capabilities I found many well thought out and nicely tuned features.

pdfFactory Pro does a very nice job of creating pdf files, quite often creating files that are substantially smaller in size than similar ones created by Adobe Acrobat.

One of the most useful features in pdfFactory is its ability to combine documents prior to PDF generation. This makes the creation of PDF documents from several sources a breeze.

FinePrint and pdfFactory are very fine products and worthy additions to your output arsenal. Highly Recommended. Full review

Ronny Ko, Bityard - When making PDF files, there's nothing better and simpler than pdfFactory. Full review

John M. - Thanks for a genuinely useful program which meets the real needs of real people in the real world. Of course we have the full version of Acrobat 7 and use its facilities extensively, but 99% of our pdf files are produced with pdfFactory Pro. The way it concatenates a whole series of separate documents into one pdf file is particularly neat and proves much more reliable than importing separate pdf files into Acrobat which sometimes produces unexpected problems.

Mark T. - Here's a little saga for you to exercise your schadenfreude on. I needed to create pdf files, so I bought Acrobat on eBay. But, it was a scammer, and I was out $120! Then I bought the real Acrobat and it SUCKED - huge PDF files, slurs didn't come out right, etc.

Then I bought pdfFactory and it was like the clouds parted and angels played trumpets to serenade fairies dancing on red and white mushrooms. I even went back and deleted most of the huge scores I had created with acrobat distiller and replaced them with pdfFactory versions. Thanks a lot for making pdfFactory.

Patrick R. - Also, I wanted to say I love your application. It's great. I embed a lot of Visio graphics into Word docs and pdfFactory Pro does an outstanding job with handling that. My docs turn out much better with pdfFactory than they ever did with Acrobat, and the conversion is quicker too. Keep up the good work. You have a customer for life!

Mike C. - A quick note on pdfFactory:

Bought it, installed it and compared it to Adobe 6.0 Professional. Bottom line:

  1. pdfFactory's Word interface is faster and less intrusive than Adobe 6.0 Pro's.
  2. pdfFactory's file output size is approximately half as large as Adobe 6.0's - a very significant and important advantage.
  3. pdfFactory's interface is more intuitive and its documentation is simpler to access and use than 6.0's.

pdfFactory is significantly less expensive.

Thanks for a truly wonderful product at a value-oriented price.

Seranata - With regard to the size of the Acrobat file, bear in mind this Word doc included a graphic in the header, and what seems like half a zillion clickable links to those gurus who contributed to the book (Joyner, Ken Evoy, etc.,) and other fun and varied stuff ...

So I tried going from cover to page 40, and it was over 17 MEG! And I was playing with a beta of Acrobat 6, passed it around, and the very best we could come up with was 6.8 meg and the quality was so bad, it wasn't usable.

It was just a nightmare. They were trying to find ways to get the size down, because there is an army lined up to push the book, and I can't deliver the goods to make it work!

pdfFactory was just next in line as I was downloading and trying any pdf tool that had a way for me to sample it. I opened the Word doc, ran pdfFactory, watched it just speed right along like there was nothing there with my mouth hanging open, afraid to even look...and voila!

There it was, the best looking pdf file I'd made yet, and this is after doing a couple hundred ebooks in pdf format! The size was 1mb. I was floored.

I said, "this is too good to be true, I won't be able to add the internal stuff in Acrobat". I opened it in Acrobat and then started to add the TOC, the inner links, etc., and they worked beautifully. When I could breathe again, I rushed to the site to buy the thing. I recognize a GREAT piece of software when I see it. I was just overjoyed to get it.

This is rendering the most comprehensive e-book I've done to date, and it is just awesome! You literally saved my bacon, and since we've got people eager to get their hands and sell this ebook, I can produce something they can sell.

Thanks again. pdfFactory is far and away the best.

Ann - I just want to say THANK-YOU, for a wonderful product - pdfFactory. I am quite a novice at the computer, so often need help with applications. I produce a monthly newsletter for a club I belong to. I wanted to find a way to reduce the file for easier downloading when e-mailing the newsletter. I was advised to try Adobe Acrobat - but the price of almost $400.(Cdn.) was too much. However, I noticed that they offered a service "Create PDF files Online" - this cost $9.95 (US) a month. I signed up in January/03 and converted my January newsletter, originally in MSWord at 3.5mg. The PDF file was 1.8mg which was fine for e-mailing. However, February was another story! My original file in MSWord was 3.1mg and converted to PDF @ 10 - yes, TEN mg.

I tried all ways to receive help or advice as to why the file had swelled to more than 3 times the size. I tried removing pages from the original, but each time I ended up with a PDF file which was approx. 3 times the size. I quickly cancelled the monthly account! Then, a friend advised me to try your pdfFactory - I downloaded the free trial and converted my original Feb MSWord file of 3.1mg - and lo & behold!! I had a PDF file of 1.3 mg. THANK YOU!! After making several free trials, I purchased the product. What a terrific product - I have recommended it to several friends already.

Dave - My academic specialization is public administration and management so I spend a huge amount of my time collecting, analyzing and using government documents from around the world posted on websites in .pdf format. It's been a real irritant with me that when agencies post a document the total size of which is, say, >5MB, they often break it up into component chapters - without providing an additional download of the whole thing complete. A damned nuisance for researchers and also for students when we set these documents as reading material for university courses - lots of small files when what we want is the one, large, complete one.

I'd asked Adobe whether they could assist me (e.g. with a patch) so that I and my colleagues could combine these separate documents into one - using a 'public good' argument (y'know, helping students and all that stuff!!!). Their reply was a bit disapproving and that it was a bit 'difficult' (I think they were angling for us to purchase the whole Acrobat package - maybe they were also worried about document security??? dunno...). I pointed out that pdfFactory allows me to do so in a very convenient format and that it struck me you guys were showing the kind of flexible entrepreneurialism customers like myself were looking for! Thanks for nothing, Adobe...!

In a separate, earlier exchange, in which I was trying to get clear instructions from them (not clear on many printer drivers, e.g. HP) on how to print 2 pages per sheet off the free Acrobat Reader using various printers (again, knowledge I was seeking to help students), the Adobe rep had the grace to act embarrassed when I pointed out that pdfFactory was giving me a print speed (in this test I used 3 different types of government documents on 5 different networked and non-networked printers) of 1-4 pages per minute straight off (printing 2 pages per sheet) whereas the Reader setting sometimes gave a delay of 30-120secs before it printed anything, then gave only 0.5-1.5 pages per minute (and with one graphics-rich document, about 6 mins wait, with about 1 page per minute - long pauses between each page). At least that exchange with Adobe was courteous (the more recent one wasn't!). But it was that test that convinced me to purchase your product 3-4 months ago and, as I noted previously, I've used it constantly since.

Barry D. - I have been using your trial version of pdfFactory for about 3 weeks now, it is fantastic!! I use MS Access to develop database applications and have always had a difficult time distributing reports electronically while preserving the reports' format. Using pdfFactory, I have been able to send my most complex reports, including graphs, Gantt charts, sub-reports, and customized grids, pdfFactory maintained all formatting aspects of these reports while converting it to the Acrobat Reader format. This has saved me a lot of time!

Frank W. - In legal departments e-mail works as a tool for forwarding many types of documents, however some clients and law firms want documents sent by fax. Because I do a lot of contract work, I used to send lots of faxed documents. Our IT department made this easier for me by getting desktop fax software for me ("FaxSr").

The fax software requires that documents and attachments be converted to tif files. This is is not a problem where you wish to simply fax a single document which is contained in a single application. From your open application (eg, WordPerfect) you open the printer menu, choose the fax software as your printer and press print. After answering prompts for recipient information and you press "send" and you are done.

This simple scenario is not always the case for me however. For example, I have had instances where a document is actually four different files -- the main document is in two separate WordPerfect files, in addition to which there is a schedule "A" in Excel and sketch in Schedule "B" in jpg format. Converting these files to tif for faxing became time consuming since you have to browse for each of the desired files, convert each separately to tif and then go into the fax software and retrieve the converted files. Prior to buying pdfFactory, the process of desktop faxing these kinds of documents was too cumbersome and unreliable and I eventually abandoned it in favor of simply walking hard copies down to the old fax machine.

pdfFactory has brought simplicity to desktop faxing multiple documents. In the scenario described above, I can simply open WordPerfect, Excel and Corel Draw, print all the required files to pdfFactory, convert to pdf and then print from Adobe Acrobat Reader to my fax software. I have never encountered a conversion problem and I get reliable and high quality faxes. What a great time saver!

I use pdfFactory every day in my work. Thanks for a great product.

Jason S. - I use PDF Factory to send sheet music to my band after I arrange it with Coda's Finale. The only other option is to save the finished arrangement as a TIFF but that's a pain because that's one tiff file per page. With PDF Factory I can include song lists, music, rundowns, and notes all in one PDF and email it out to the band. It's wonderful!

John M - I need to make PDF files for distribution to my students. I found pdfFactory by a Google search. I had been struggling today with Adobe but it would not convert my Wordperfect 8 file which had 23 pages, tables and 20 figures. The trial version of pdfFactory whizzed through this with no overflows or errors - and all in about 60 seconds. I fell off my chair in delight and amazement. Of course, I had to buy it.

Dirk L. - Thanks -- worked like a champ, I'm all registered and am EXTREMELY happy with the new features! I've used pdfFactory for "normal stuff", but one of the most valuable uses for me is archiving online purchase confirmations and similar online documents so I have a permanent electronic copy -- now I can secure those documents! Your product represents both a great value and feature set -- characteristics usually mutually exclusive these days!

Russell B. You will have received my $49.95 for FinePrint pdfFactory, but I should add my personal thanks for saving my ***. Last semester, I discovered that about half my students were unable to read the phonetic symbols (Sildoulas.ttf and WordPerfect fonts) in my materials. The font was properly embedded and the file readable on a machine which did not have the special fonts loaded.

I was stumped until a student came up with the solution to the problem. The Adobe Reader 5.0 refused to read the phonetic characters while the Adobe Reader 4.0 did so without problems. I attempted to solve the problem by acquiring a license for Adobe 5.0 (Daddy's money). I discovered that 5.0 correctly embedded the fonts, the 4.0 Reader would read them, but the 5.0 Reader would not! Amazingly, pdfFactory 1.41 creates files with embedded fonts that the Adobe Reader 5.0 can read.

Roger R. I just want to tell you, I'm *blown*away* by FinePrint and pdfFactory! I usually find utilities of this type to be not worth the money ...sometimes even if they're free. But I downloaded your demos and within15 minutes was ordering both. These simple, yet powerful tools accomplish things I've wanted to do for *years*. Concrete user-friendliness. Extensive, well thought-out capabilities. And what appears to be rock-solid stability, even in the flaky Windows printer environment. Worth much more for those of us who make our living producing documents of various types and formats. Congratulations.

Jayn S. Just wanted to express my thanks for creating a great program that does what it says, simply and effectively. The trial version met my needs, so I registered. The price is right too. I like being able to combine multiple docs. I like how you give me the option to embed the fonts and then REMEMBER which fonts I embedded for future use. Very user friendly, unlike most Adobe products I have tried. Your website is clean and easy to navigate through.

Jerry S. I registered pdfFactory immediately after downloading the beta. Let me tell you, sir, that pdfFactory is a godsend. In many ways it is far more flexible and easier to use than Acrobat.

While I originally registered pdfFactory intending to use with FinePrint, I found that pdfFactory solved a particularly irritating problem for me. I despise on-line manuals. And as publishers increasingly include nothing more than a so-called help file, the situation has become far worse. First, my eyesight is typical for my age (old). Second, the help files, more often than not, are written by folks who lack writing skills, are often poorly structured and worst of all, provide no index, meaning that every search for some item is a frustrating struggle.

A near-perfect solution is simply printing the help files to pdfFactory. Much easier and faster to do in pdfFactory than Acrobat. My thanks to you and your colleagues, Jonathan. As you did with finePrint, you've created an extraordinarily powerful tool that saves time and makes day-to-day computing a lot easier.

Richard C. In my work, almost daily I find it necessary to send information to others that I have created in various programs (often very specialized) and/or including scanned images. In the past I would have to separately create all the interim files using Acrobats pdf writer, then go into Acrobat and collect the various components into a single document. While this was a hassle, it was the only way perform this task. When pdfFactory was released, I immediately downloaded the program and a quick run through its basic operation, went back and purchased it. Since that short time, I have found it to be an invaluable tool on a daily basis. I have often wondered why Adobe didn't have a better way of gathering output from an assortment of sources to create a single document. I just wanted to let you know thank you for the great work you have done in creating pdfFactory.

Marty Thanks for the immediate reply to my previous question concerning pdfFactory, it is most helpful in understanding what is involved in making this magic work! :-) In some further experimentation, I see now that an instruction sheet I created using MS Word with "embedded" graphics that weights in at 825 KB, can be pared down to a much more Internet friendly 106 KB .pdf file when "printed" to pdfFactory. The benefits are obvious. Thanks again and regards.

Peter S. I just discovered your product as a result of an article on Newslinx.com Strangely enough we were about to buy Adobe Acrobat 5.0 as we had a problem with the previous version loading the correct fonts etc., and making the (URL) links in the document live. We bought the program and within minutes, nay seconds, had it print a PDF file of the latest issue with all the correct fonts!!!!

Needless to say I am ecstatic about PDFFactory. Keep up the great work guys, this is a product the deserves to receive one of our Editor's Choice awards and I will be suggesting that at our next meeting.

Derek M. As antiquarian booksellers who use print a great deal to communicate our wares to customers around the world we're delighted with pdfFactory -- it enables us to produce decently printed material without much fuss, and to know that what we see is what our customer gets -- wysiwcg -- which is important for us. We are now considering putting current old technology printed catalogues on our web-site for download as pdf files using the Factory software. I can fully recommend the program to anyone considering new ways of distributing information without losing the appeal and power of older technology devices like good old printing.
