pdfFactory, pdfFactory Pro and FinePrint are available as Server Editions (SE) designed for use in a network environment. With hundreds of thousands of server based installations, SE is a proven solution for enabling PDF creation and efficient printing to any number of users in an organization.

Server Edition has the following features:

Centralized Installation: Install SE on a Windows server, and any user can install by connecting to a shared printer. Admin access to the workstation is not required with SE.

Centralized Updates: When a new version of SE is installed on the server, client users are automatically updated to the new version.

Network Client Support: SE supports clients running Windows Vista, XP, 2000 and NT including laptops and Terminal Server/Citrix clients.

Shared configuration: Common settings can be placed on the server for propagation to workstations. For example, PDF security parameters or letterheads saved on the server will be copied to workstations or thin clients.

License management: SE ensures license compliance and allows monitoring and control of license usage on a single server or a group of connected servers.

Licensing

The number of SE licenses to purchase is based on the number of workstations that will access SE through the network. Licensing is not concurrent nor is it based on the number of servers.

Examples:

1. 8 different workstations accessing SE on the network requires an 8 user SE license regardless of whether the 8 workstations will access SE at different times or concurrently.

2. 20 users using Terminal Server or local applications requires a 20 user SE license. SE will automatically allocate licenses among any number of Terminal Servers.

3. 40 total connected workstations but only 12 using SE requires a 12 user SE license.

Windows Terminal Server/Citrix Support

Server Edition products fully support Windows Terminal Server and Citrix Metaframe environments. Our products support full desktop sessions as well as single application, published application, and seamless application sessions. No special setup is required.

Server Installation

System Requirements: Windows NT, 2000, XP, 2003 Server.
To install Server Edition on a server:

  1. Download the self-extracting archive, which can be done from this page, above.
  2. Open the self-extracting archive.
  3. The installer will automatically install the printer drivers for Windows Vista, XP, 2000, NT on the server and create a shared printer that clients can access. The installation process also installs the full product for use on the server itself.

Client Installation

System Requirements: Windows Vista, XP, 2000, NT.

Client installation using SE requires connecting to the shared network printer, installed as above on the server. Client connection to the shared printer can be done via Network Neighborhood or the Add Printer Wizard in the Printers folder.

Automatic Client Updates

When Server Edition is installed on your server, the connected clients are automatically updated with the new version. These updates are performed only when the client computer is rebooted or when a new user is logged on.

Uninstallation

SE can be easily removed from either a client workstation or a server by any of the following methods:

  • Running the "Uninstall" shortcut in the program group
  • Running the Add/Remove Programs applet from Control Panel and removing the driver
  • Deleting the driver icon from the Printers folder

The trial downloads below are fully functional and have no time limit. Trial version prints a small banner on each page which is removed when you purchase.
